An Elegant Garden Wedding at The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe

A wedding can be beautifully designed without feeling overly formal. Grace and Blake’s celebration at The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe paired the ease of a garden gathering with thoughtful details, abundant flowers, and a reception designed for a genuinely good time on the dance floor. I love these two. They are both so kind and fun. I love how they love their people. I went home with my cheeks hurting from smiling so much. It was one of those nights that could have gone on endlessly. I’m certainly happy that the photos will. Grace and Blake forever. Love you two!

This blog post is such a tiny smattering of the joy that happened this day. I couldn’t possibly share every touching moment. I am so happy for how much love there is in Grace and Blake’s world.
Surrounded by mature trees, Spanish-style architecture, and the quiet beauty of Rancho Santa Fe, the couple created a wedding that felt elegant, personal, and completely connected to the setting. I love that the guests knew what they were in for with that stunning invitation suite with a watercolor of the Inn. Brightly Designed really set the stage.
A Romantic Garden Ceremony
The ceremony took place beneath one of the property’s magnificent trees. Organic Elements transformed it with layers of white, pale blue, and soft green flowers that appeared to grow naturally around the trunk.
The floral-lined aisle led across the lawn, creating a beautiful sense of arrival while preserving the open garden atmosphere. Natural wood chairs and the surrounding greenery kept the design relaxed and organic.
Some of my favorite photographs from the ceremony are the reactions: parents laughing from the front row, guests leaning toward one another, the couple taking in the moment, and the spontaneous kiss as they made their way back down the aisle.
Those brief expressions often become as meaningful as the expected photographs. They reveal what it actually felt like to be there.
Modern Bridal Style
The bride’s sleek wedding gown felt modern and sculptural, with a dramatic cape adding movement and personality. Her softly structured curls brought a subtle vintage influence to the look.
Against the gardens and tiled architecture of The Inn, the combination felt distinctive without competing with the setting.
We used several parts of the property for portraits, including the open lawn, flower-covered ceremony tree, and a vine-framed walkway. My approach to wedding portraits is to keep the couple in good light and comfortable. I want couples to look polished while being themselves.
A Reception Beneath the Trees
Can there always be a clear tent?? Itt allowed guests to remain connected to the landscape throughout dinner. How gorgeous is that? Greenery, woven pendant lights, and strands of warm lights softened the structure, while pale blue and white flowers continued the ceremony palette across the reception tables. I can’t even tell you how dreamy it was to have a dance floor under all the “chandeliers”. Is that still the word when they aren’t crystal? Well either way they were perfect.
The design felt cohesive from beginning to end. Even the smallest details—including the custom paper pieces, wax seals, illustrated signature cocktails, place settings, and floral accents—belonged to the same visual story. I love how Cara makes everything feel so effortless and luxe, ha ha pun intended.
Photographing these elements matters. Couples spend months working with their creative team to make hundreds of individual decisions. The final gallery should preserve both the complete atmosphere and the details that made the celebration their own.
A Wedding That Felt as Good as It Looked
As dinner shifted into dancing, the celebration became increasingly energetic. There were emotional embraces, playful exchanges between the couple, packed tables, live music, and a dance floor filled with family and friends.
This is the balance I look for when photographing a wedding: composed portraits and beautiful design alongside the unplanned expressions that give the photographs their life.
The result is not simply a record of how the wedding looked. It is a visual account of how the day unfolded—from the quiet anticipation of getting ready to the color and movement of the final celebration. I was especially touched by the tiny yellow touches. There is so much yellow in the landscape of the Inn, I loved how Organic Elements brought it into the floral.
