hilariousness

So I'm sitting on something pretty funny right now.  I'm dying to share it with you all.  Quixotic Weddings, Luxe Special Events, Brightly Designed, Organic Elements, CAKE, Audra Rene Studios we all have  a secret and we are not telling.   But trust me I will share something pretty funny with you all in the next couple of months.Instead today I will share something kind of insane.  Mike and I are always naming things.  Like this grey cockapoodle dog I wanted name Ruben James.  Or a cute little minidaushound I've considered naming Oregano.  Well lately everything I name I give the last name of Ofeldt to.  Since Mike and I engaged and getting married in April I've taken to naming our future children.  So far Mike has vetoed everything.  Mountain Ofeldt?  Not a chance.  So we came up with crazy one on a road trip recently.  It was so odd that I just had to share it with you.

Happy Friday,

Suzanne

Happy Memories

I had dinner with the Gomez's this week and it reminded me of a lovely day at Estancia with Kaci and Jeff.  Over the dinner table we were talking about how much we love the customer service at Estancia.  I really love it when our bride and groom are treated so lovely. Here are a few happy memories,

i love you December

Well Christmas has come and gone. I hope everyone had a magical time with their families, i did! I was sad to see my mom and Larry go to the airport. Mike's mom Mary is staying with us through the New Year.As hectic as December is for shewanders, it's still my favorite time of the year. We sang Christmas Carols at the Old Globe Tree Lighting, saw Some Lovers at the Old Globe, ate amazing pastries with dear friends and Ben and Grace's 10th Annual Holiday Pastry Party, got an awesome shampoo gun at Kristen and Trevors 8th Annual White Elephant Party, Game Night, won Apples to Apples at the Elf, Board Games at Craft Beer Night at 98 Bottles, dressed up as a penguin and passed out candy to the children on Point Break Finance's float at the OB Christmas Parade with some of the craziest people I've ever known, ate at the food trucks at Balboa Nights (Christmas on the Prado) with Courtney, Ashley, and Miss Ella after Root 75's open house and the Coronado Christmas Parade, cookie decorating at CAKE, photographed a holiday inspiration shoot with Brightly Designed, Luxe Events, Ray Thomas, and Blush Botanicals, made great holiday presents for some friends with Organic Elements, A Sweet Addition, and Cork and Platter, went to a holiday mixer with Naomi -At First Blush and created beautiful Holiday Cards, albums and prints....

and then my family came and we got a tree from the lot, decorated it while listening to christmas carols and ate a lot of sweets and played a lot of yahtzee. I hope to eat less candy canes, brownies, and cookies in January. Hmmm I wonder if December is busy or I am just insane for wanting to be a part of it all. I didn't get to go to SantaCon this year, i had a cold. I'm curious if it is as good as it sounds. I also missed Anette and Scott's Apres Ski Party, although I was dressed for it, we ran out of time. I also bought 2 ugly sweaters at a thrift store in indiana last year but did not get invited to any ugly sweater parties. Every year I imagine we will have enough time to fly to san francisco to go to one of the Sing Alongs at the Castro. There's always next year right? Somewhere in the middle of writing the last paragraph I concluded that part of the reason I've been home really sick the last two days is that I love Christmas too much and probably need to tone down the craziness a little. Maybe next year I'll try not to do everything, but probably not. Happy Friday Everyone, I hope your new years dreams come true. xoxo Suzanne shewanders photography, san diego family photograhy, cute girl next to christmas tree in christmas pajamas, with snowman san diego wedding photography, winter wedding table

forever young

It's that family time of the year again. We have been photographing some of our most favorite families over the last couple of weeks. It's part of the holiday season that you make that extra effort to see your friends and family. I'm most excited for my family and Mike's family to get to town. I was watching Parenthood last night while I was working and remembered how much I loved Bob Dylan's immortal lyrics and thought I'd share some family portraits with you.I hope that this holiday season you get to be near your loved ones.Happy Friday! xoxo Suzanne

Read to Me

Lately I have been obsessed with reading.  Since I was nine I have always devoured books.  I think my first book was Tales of the Fourth Grade Nothing.  After that, I was hooked.  There was a period a few years ago, when I only started books and never finished them.  I must have had too much on my mind at the time.  At one point Jen Morisson banned me from Amazon.  I couldn't stop ordering books, they were everywhere.  She was designing my new condo and couldn't help but notice I had a problem.  It took me a few years to actually read the dozens of books I had ordered.  Now I'm just buying them as I go.Reading a good book is like traveling into someone else's life.  This book Little Bee by Chris Cleave took me about 36 hours to read.  I couldn't stop.  I was so drawn in.  The excerpt below isn't really indicative of what the book is about, but it is so funny to me.  I hope one day you'll get a chance to read this book.

Happy Friday, Suzanne "In my village, each year when the rains stopped, the men went to the town and they brought back a projector and a diesel generator, and they tied a rope between two trees, and we watched a film on a white sheet that they hung from the rope. There was no sound, only the rumble of the generator and the shrieking of the creatures in the jungle. This is how we learned about your world. the only film we had was Top Gun and we watched it five times. It was a film about a man who had to travel everywhere very fast, sometimes on a motorbike and sometimes in an aeroplane. We discussed this, the children in my village, and we decided two things: one, that the film should be called The Man Who Was In a Great Hurry and two, that the moral of the film was that he should get up earlier so that he would not have to rush to fit everything into his day, instead of lying around with the woman with blond hair that we called The Stay-In-Bed Woman."

I'm a wedding and event coordinator, and owner of a favor company, as well as a very recent bride. I’ve seen the wedding industry from different perspectives and understand the emotions and importance each role plays. With such perspective, I feel I am able to interact with my industry co-workers, clients and their families and guests more effectively. For me, the most important thing to be – other than extremely creative and organized – is calm, understanding and flexible in every situation.

2) Why do you love what you are doing? In a word: smiles. :) There is nothing more rewarding than knowing you contributed to someone else’s joy and most cherished day, surrounded by family and friends.

3) What makes your business wonderful and stand out from the rest? I’m passionate about what I do. I put all of my heart into each and every event that I’m involved in! I never push ideas or talk a client into something that is not for them... Instead, I try to find what they are looking for and will not rest until I know they are getting exactly what they want. I listen to my clients and do all that I can to make their event successful and a true reflection of who they are.

I also prioritize educational programs and industry events. Trends and rules are always changing, and as planners and business owners, it is our responsibility to stay current. I’ve found that staying current and exposing myself to these industry changes allows me to provide more guidance and insight to my clients.

4) Where do you find your inspiration? Everywhere… buildings, landscaping, art, color, blogs, magazines and fashion!

5) What does the world need right now? Love, sweet love…. No pun intended!:) With everyday stresses, I think it’s important people remember to celebrate the important things and important people in their lives.

6) What advice do you have for brides to be? Advice for Brides to be.... Wow, I may have too much advice!:) First, try not to let the planning consume you, getting married is what matters!! Stay focused on why you are getting married and try to enjoy every moment leading up to the big day. A lot of time, money, thought and energy is put into a wedding... Having a good planner will ensure that your day runs smoothly and all details are executed properly. Planners are amazing for many different reasons but it's comforting to know someone is there making sure you, your family and friends can enjoy the day and not worry about all the details.

7) If you could go to one of the 7 wonders of the world, where would you go and why? Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory! It’s a wonder… right!?

peace, briana

great outfits ahead...

Every morning I ask myself, through a haze of sleepiness, what am I going to wear?  It's my daily conundrum.  One day I will become Super Suzanne and choose my clothes the night before when I am awake and capable of making fun, creative, and hopefully functional decisions. If I lived somewhere other than San Diego I could say I was waiting to see what the weather is going to be like, but I think we can all pretty much guess that answer.  In fact, I have a weather app on my iphone that has a picture of a sun and says 73°.  For weeks I didn't realize that you had to click on the app for it to update, since every day was around 73° and sunny.

Anyway, back to getting dressed.  Kyleen gets emails all the time asking what are great engagement shoot wardrobe ideas.  Katie and I pulled some examples for you.

I adore dresses, heels, bright colors, clothes that make you look good.  An engagement shoot is the perfect excuse to get a new sassy dress and be a little bit fancy or commit to your favorite pair of flip flops and plant your feet firmly in the sand socal style.

Whatever your wardrobe is good hair and make up never go out of style.  Why not use your engagement session for your hair and make up trial?  A few links to consider Audra Rene, Ray Thomas, Lovestruck, Lisa Marie.

Crybaby

Hello everybody,My friend Jenny says I should write when I have something to say, not at a scheduled time.  So I am writing this on my iPhone in the goodwill parking lot covered in sweat. Well it finally happened I cried in yoga class.  It was a Corepower Saturday sculpt class in Point Loma.  This blog is turning into a confession space. Being self employed is amazing and impossible at times. Kind of like being in love... I was intimidated by the weights in the Sculpt class and imagined I would end up accidentally knocking myself out. It turns out, I was really great. Who knew? I've been practicing yoga forever but it was bootcamp that really helped me through this one. In shebasana they played a song with lyrics saying something like "we will rise up, you and me" it reminded me that I am strong. Even if I am often a little flustered by juggling so many things at once, I still can swim in my own sweat and accomplish more than I ever thought. It also reminded me of dancing in the kitchen with Mike. I'm not a great dancer and don't love clubs all that much.  But when the mood strikes.   When I hear a song for dancing.  The world goes away and I dance with Mike Ofeldt, even if we are in someone else's kitchen. I'm so grateful for him in those moments. The teacher also read a quote about being grateful for your passions and that she has found she gets further in life when she remembers to be soft and let go. So after sweating like an animal and then barely able to keep a thought at all, we finally lay down and relax in shebasana.   As I was laying on my back, my mind started slowing down and heard her words combined with the songs lyrics. I felt my eyes burning and my tears mingle with my sweat and was surprised I was crying.  They were tears of  gratitude. I'm grateful for all of you.

With love,  Suzanne

PS getting back to the office this week and putting the post together with images has led to some offbeat choices.  I wanted to post this picture of me at the end of a Making Things Happen seminar (despite the fact that I look insane) because I felt a similar since of gratitude and I'm holding up a sign that Says "I am Love".  Mike, Courtney , and I recorded these videos after the seminar that are pretty embarrassing.  If I ever drunk blog, that will be the first post I make.

But since I can't find it you guys get a series of images that may or may not relate to yoga but crack me up.  A little journey from San Diego to Barcelona to Alaska to Norway and back.

Poolside

I grew up in the valley. That means hot summers and a deep love for all things that cool you down. I don't know if people from temperate climates can ever know the joy that I get from swimming pools, waterslides, misters, ice cream, otterpops etc.My favorite part about Vegas is that so many people share my enthusiasm for swimming pools and chilly treats. Here are a couple of iPhone snaps from our road trip. Our friends came to visit us from Italy and that is what sparked a trip to Vegas in August.  I wish I had pictures of me, Mike, Cristina, Aurora, Elisa, and Lauriedonna, but it seems that I only had eyes for the swimming pool and Mike Ofeldt. I'll do better next time.

Anyone have a recommendation for a water resistant camera?  Wet hands and the iphone were tricky.  Also the New York Times had a fun feature on pool photography by Katie Orlinsky for more pool joy but on some Beach Boys and click here. Baci, Suzanne
