My underwater adventures became one of the highlights of my individual projects this year.  I feel as an artist in order to stay relevant you have to continually evolve in your craft.  These underwater adventures have helped me evolve this year.  I enjoyed working with all of the individuals who inspired me to create a series of work that makes me smile.  I have always loved the water and I have always loved photography.  Now I have images that capture two of my greatest loves.  I look forward to new waterworld adventures next summer.xoxo,

Underwater pictures have always held a certain mystery to me.  I've always felt that there is a story behind every picture that is longing to be uncovered.  With the addition of water it seems the story becomes even more inquiring.  I wanted to play up the mystery and storytelling in this underwater photo shoot with Dani and Hanna, so we added a new element to these images.  It was interesting to see how the image can change drastically with the addition of a few props, especially one's that you would not normally associate with being underwater.  I am looking forward to adding more unexpected elements to my underwater work in the future.xoxo,

Waterworld : Daniella and James

When I started experimenting with underwater photography I knew instantly that I wanted to incorporate a familiar aspect into this new work. I am fortunate to get to capture the dynamics of so many couples in love each year and was excited to combine that with this project.  I wanted to experiment with how love would show up in a new and unexpected environment.  What was born from this combination of interests was an intimate and special set of moments.  It seems like people getting photographed underwater tend to forget they are being photographed. What happens after that is a series of real and passionate emotions. They close their eyes, reach for each other, and get lost in the middle of the water as if no one else is around.xoxo,

savethedate9As an artist I believe in continuing to study your craft, improving your skills and searching outside of your comfort zone for inspiration.  I wanted to seek inspiration outside of the norm and challenge myself with a new skill this year, so over the summer I started experimenting with underwater photography.  I have always loved being in the water, the feeling of being weightless, carefree, relaxed and floating in a dreamlike state.  I wanted to use this underwater exploration as a way to not only practice something completely different than what I am use to, but to visually create the freedom I feel when I am in the water.  I'd say my summer project was a success and this is the first set of a mini series of images inspired by the blissfulness of being in the water.xoxo,

4 Things...Relaxing Weekend

Happy weekend everyone. San Diego has been experiencing some crazy East Coast weather again this week. Hot and humid seems to be the new norm for SoCal. Fortunately for me, I've been experimenting with underwater photography lately. It's been rad to play with new ideas and come up with shoots that are outside the box. I enjoy treading on the wild side. The photograph below is from one of my recent sessions. These are 4 things that I've been enjoying this week...Watching: Into the Woods a the Old Globe Theatre.  This musical premiered at the Old Globe in 1986 and has returned this August. This play uses classic children stories to weave a story and lead your imagination into a dreamy, mythical world.

Thinking: I've been thinking about the movie we recently saw. It's called Wish I Was Here by Zach Braff. It is a fantastic movie about a 35 year old father who is a struggling actor and still trying to discover himself. I'd highly recommend seeing this movie.

Loving: Potato salad. On Kickstarter, a rad guy named Zack Danger Brown is raising money by selling....potato salad. If you donate $1, he will say your name out loud while making potato salad. What does $2 get you? A photo of him making the potato salad, and he will say your name out loud when making the salad. Now if you feel inclined to donate $20, you receive items such as a potato-salad haiku, your name carved into a potato to be used in the his salad, and an autographed jar of mayonnaise. Best part? Under "Risks and Challenges" he states: It might not be that good, it's my first potato salad."

Dreaming: I've been dreaming about today all week long. Today is Sunday funday at The Pearl with our friends. We are taking a much needed day off in the midst of wedding season and hanging out with great people by the pool. It's time for some relaxation.

4 Things…It's Summer

It is finally summer and I'm excited. Summer time in San Diego is always perfect. Here are few things I have been doing lately. I hope they inspire you. Happy Weekend.Dreaming Of: Years ago, Mike and I shot Whitney and Greg's wedding in Anchorage, Alaska on summer solstice. They had a baby then, but now, there's another on the way. I love following our clients on Facebook and seeing their families grow. Sending lots of hugs your way. Cheers to more babies.

Creating: A series of underwater images.  I'm loving the challenges that shooting underwater comes with.  I'm learning to hold my breath longer and judge distances to focus on our manual focus film camera.  I've got to tell you I miss through the lens focusing.

Listening To: Jackie and Kim's Wedding CD. It's amazing. I love getting my hands on people's mixed tapes.  It's an art in itself.

Celebrating: Recently my younger brother welcomes his first born into the world. I'm an aunt. I just met him today. It was love at first sight.
